My 3rd and last Mountain Bike Transalp

I finished this years mountain bike transalp, again, 6 kg heavier than when I started and swollen legs. Fortunately, 1 week afterwards, the swelling went away as did 4kgs. The race itself was nothing really special: a mix of the previous two transalps plus 3 new stages. In the end, unless one video tapes or takes copiuous pictures, all the stages blend  into one big trail. I decided on the 3rd day of the race that I would no longer ride Mountain Bikes as I am bored with the whole scene and need a new challenge. Actually, the last two years I only rode the Mountain bike about 20 times, 16 of which where during the transalp. 95% of the time I am riding the road bike. so………more later

  1. Last TransAlp and end of mtb-ing. Bizarre! I also find the 6kg weight gain really bizarre. What do you think that’s from?

I do road riding with Kera as I enjoy the scenery but I seemingly (going on 16 years mtb-ing) will probably always crave good singletrack (which I’ve really never found in Germany other than maybe some at SiS).

Not sure what would ever make me change my mind. Maybe if I overtrained or something.

Anyway, good luck figuring out your next challenge. Mine, it seems, is doing things like the Grenzsteintrophy, NaturAid, etc.

    Ciao!

  2. Last MTB Transalp, that is. I am planning on doing the Tour-Transalp ( Roadbike) as well as some time trials and road bike marathons in Italy. I am tired of the “German” mountain bike scene.

My guess is that 2 of the 6 kg was water, 2 kg Fat, 1kg is new leg muscle and 1 kg intestinal “Gegenstand” Why? Probably because during the race, I have no real chance to eat my normal foods and I am forced to eat pasta and bread instead of copious amounts of veggies and fruits.

If I look at a plate of pasta, I gain fat.
